Tokenized Gold Explored as Collateral for SOL Staking

Capitalizing on Onchain Real-World Assets

Solana blockchain infrastructure firm Flowra has signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Gold Exchange Digital Asset. (KorDA) to explore using gold-backed digital assets as collateral for securing Solana validator operations, the companies announced.

Under the 12-month agreement, the companies plan to evaluate a model where KGLD, a gold-backed digital asset managed by KorDA or an authorized affiliate, serves as collateral to secure solana (SOL) tokens. The secured SOL would then be delegated to network validators running on Flowra’s infrastructure.

The agreement comes amid rapid expansion in the broader market for real-world assets (RWAs) onchain. Tokenized gold has emerged as one of the fastest-growing categories in the digital asset sector, with total market capitalization surging to over $6 billion. Driven by rising institutional demand, high central bank gold purchases, and heightened geopolitical uncertainty, the market cap for tokenized commodities has grown significantly, outpacing traditional physical gold products.

The proposed structure aims to connect real-world assets (RWAs) directly with core blockchain infrastructure, allowing tokenized gold to help unlock capital for network operations rather than remaining passive on-chain assets.

As part of the initiative, Flowra and KorDA plan to launch the Flowra-KorDA Delegation Program (FKDP), which would allocate sourced SOL to eligible validators. The companies intend to source SOL from institutional investors, lending providers, and the Solana Foundation.

According to a media statement, operational responsibilities will be split between the two firms. Flowra will provide its proprietary Solana infrastructure, including its Block Engine, Programmable Block Policy, and open orderflow auction technologies, while KorDA oversees validator operations, including server maintenance, continuous monitoring, and key management.

The two will also jointly establish selection criteria for validators, guidelines for SOL allocation, and protocols for distributing revenue from staking rewards, block rewards, and maximum extractable value (MEV) tips.

The companies emphasized that any future rollout remains subject to regulatory review, legal compliance, and final definitive agreements. Under the proposed framework, Flowra will not custody any collateral; assets will be segregated and held via independent custodians, escrow accounts, or multi-signature wallets.
